Description

This enchanting sourdough bread combines the tang of sourdough with the sweetness of blueberries and the creaminess of cream cheese, all brightened with a hint of lemon.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Combine the sourdough starter, warm milk, sugar, softened butter, and vanilla extract in a large mixing bowl until smooth.
  2. Add the all-purpose flour and salt gradually, stirring gently until just combined.
  3. Fold in the blueberries and lemon zest carefully.
  4. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm area for about 60 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Grease a loaf pan generously with butter or cooking spray.
  7. Pour half of the dough into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly.
  8. Scatter the pieces of cream cheese over the dough.
  9. Cover with the remaining dough and smooth the surface.
  10. Bake for 45-55 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  11. Cool for 10 minutes before transferring it to a cooling rack.

Notes

To enhance flavors, let the dough rise overnight in the fridge and bring it to room temperature before baking.
