Instructions
- Combine the Yeast Mixture: In a bowl, mix the warmed milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit until bubbly.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Make a well and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs. Stir until dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: On a floured surface, knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Let It Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Dough: Roll out dough to 1/2 inch thick, cut into circles, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Fry the Doughnuts: Heat oil in a deep fryer or pot over medium heat. Fry doughnuts for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Drain and Coat: Transfer to paper towels and roll in sugar while warm.
- Fill with Sweetness: Use a piping bag to fill each bombolone with pastry cream or jam.
