Description

A simple yet rewarding recipe for homemade sourdough bread, featuring a crispy crust and airy interior.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
  • 1/2 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Instructions

  1. Combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 1/2 cups of lukewarm water in a large mixing bowl. Stir gently until no dry flour remains. Cover and let rest for about 30 minutes.
  2. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of bubbly sourdough starter and 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt over the rested dough. Mix thoroughly until fully integrated.
  3. Cover the bowl again and let it rise at room temperature for 8-12 hours.
  4. Turn the risen dough out onto a floured surface and shape it into a round loaf.
  5. Place the loaf on a piece of floured parchment paper and let it rise for another 1-2 hours.
  6. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) with the Dutch oven inside.
  7. Transfer the dough (still on parchment) into the hot Dutch oven, cover it, and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
  9. Let the bread cool on a wire rack for at least an hour before slicing.
