Description
Indulgent jelly donuts filled with sweet jam and dusted with powdered sugar, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup fruit jam (e.g., raspberry or strawberry)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the yeast with 1/2 cup of warm milk. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Mix the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon salt until well-combined.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients: Pour the frothy yeast mixture, along with 2 large eggs and 1/4 cup melted butter, into the flour mixture. Stir until the dough starts to come together.
- Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Let the dough rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
- Shape the donuts: Punch down the risen dough, roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness, cut out circles, and fill with jam.
- Heat the oil: In a deep frying pan, heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the donuts: Carefully drop them into the hot oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Drain and dust: Remove donuts from oil, let drain on paper towels, and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Make-ahead tips: Prepare the dough the night before and refrigerate it after the first rise. Customize with different jam flavors or add spices to the dough.
