- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
- Roll the dough into balls and place them on a baking sheet.
- Make an indentation in the center of each cookie using your thumb.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are set.
- While the cookies are baking, prepare the cream cheese filling by mixing cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Once the cookies are out of the oven, fill the thumbprint with the cream cheese mixture.
- Let cool before serving.

- Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
- For a festive touch, sprinkle with red and white sprinkles before serving.
