Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup active sourdough starter
- 1 cup warm water (100°F or 38°C)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Whisk together your active sourdough starter, warm water, sugar, and olive oil until well combined.
- Stir in the flour and salt until a shaggy dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 4–6 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough gently and reshape it into a loaf.
- Place it seam-side down in a greased loaf pan, cover it again, and let it rise for an additional 1–2 hours.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the loaf for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped.
- Allow the bread to cool on a rack before slicing.
Notes
Store bread at room temperature in a paper bag for 2–3 days or freeze for longer freshness. To revive stale bread, mist it with water and bake briefly.
