Description

A delicious casserole that transforms classic French toast into a warm, comforting dish filled with sweet strawberries and creamy custard, perfect for brunch or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of soft bread (French or challah)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cut the bread into one-inch cubes and layer half of them in the prepared dish.
  3. Layer half of the sliced strawberries atop the bread.
  4. Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth. Pour half over the bread and strawberries.
  5. Add remaining bread cubes and top with the rest of the strawberries. Pour the remainder of the egg mixture on top.
  6. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  7. Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar and serving.

Notes

Best prepared the night before to allow flavors to meld. Use day-old bread for better absorption of the custard.
