- 1 loaf of soft bread (French or challah)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cut the bread into one-inch cubes and layer half of them in the prepared dish.
- Layer half of the sliced strawberries atop the bread.
- Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth. Pour half over the bread and strawberries.
- Add remaining bread cubes and top with the rest of the strawberries. Pour the remainder of the egg mixture on top.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar and serving.
Notes
Best prepared the night before to allow flavors to meld. Use day-old bread for better absorption of the custard.
