Description
A comforting and hearty casserole filled with beef or turkey, cabbage, spices, and rice, slow-cooked to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 head of cabbage, chopped
- 1 cup uncooked rice
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, add your ground beef or turkey. Sauté until the meat is browned, about 5-7 minutes. Mix in the chopped onion and minced garlic; simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- In your slow cooker, layer half of the chopped cabbage at the bottom. Follow this with half of the meat mixture, then sprinkle on half of the uncooked rice. Pour in half of the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes.
- Repeat the layering process: add the remaining cabbage, the rest of the meat mixture, then the remaining rice, tomatoes, and sauce.
- Pour 1 cup of water over the top, ensuring the rice has enough moisture to cook.
- Cover and set your crockpot on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours, allowing enough time for the cabbage and rice to become tender and the flavors to mingle beautifully.
- Serve warm, and don’t forget to relish every bite—your home will soon fill with compliments and second helpings!
Notes
For a lighter version, consider substituting turkey for ground beef or using cauliflower rice for a lower-carb option.
