- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Cooked white or brown rice (for serving)
- Green onions and sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- Coat the chicken pieces thoroughly with cornstarch in a mixing bowl.
- Heat the vegetable oil in your skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
- Fry the chicken in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes, and remove to drain on paper towels.
- Combine soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes in a bowl and stir until sugar dissolves.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with chicken drippings and bring to a simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the crispy chicken back into the skillet, stirring gently to coat with the sauce.
- Serve over warm rice, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
