- 4 slices of thick bread (Brioche or challah)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk (whole or 2%)
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons bourbon (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- Salt to taste
- 4 slices of crispy bacon
- Butter for cooking
- Additional maple syrup for drizzling
Instructions
- Whisk together the custard: In a mixing bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them together. Add the milk, maple syrup, bourbon (if using), vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Soak the bread slices: Dip each piece of thick bread into the custard for about 15-20 seconds on each side.
- Cook the bacon: Place a skillet over medium heat and cook the bacon strips until crispy, around 5-7 minutes.
- Heat the skillet: In the same skillet, melt a tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
- Cook the French toast: Lay the soaked bread in the skillet, cooking for 2-3 minutes until golden brown on each side.
- Assemble and serve: Stack the French toast on plates, add the crispy bacon, and drizzle with warm maple syrup.
Notes
Prepare the custard the night before for ease. You can also use an air fryer for a healthier twist.
