- 1 stick (1/2 cup) salted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 cup patriotic sprinkles (and extra for topping)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) salted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 3 tbsp cream cheese, softened
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 2 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a 9×9 baking pan with parchment paper.
- Beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
- Whisk together the flour and baking powder in a separate bowl.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the patriotic sprinkles.
- Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared pan.
- Bake for 20-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan.
- Beat together the frosting ingredients until smooth.
- Spread the frosting over the cooled bars and top with extra sprinkles.
- Slice into squares and serve.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to five days, or refrigerate for up to two weeks.
