Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups active sourdough starter
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 56 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Combine the active sourdough starter with warm water and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Stir gently until smooth.
  2. Add 3 cups of bread flour gradually, mixing with a wooden spoon until a wet mixture forms.
  3. Sprinkle in the salt and pour in the olive oil. Gradually incorporate remaining flour until it pulls away from the bowl’s sides.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl and cover with a towel. Let rise until doubled in size (4 to 6 hours).
  6. Punch the dough down gently, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased loaf pan. Allow to rise again for 2 to 3 hours.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Let cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For best results, ensure your sourdough starter is active. Consider adding herbs or cheese for extra flavor.
